Bollywood said goodbye to one of its veteran filmmakers on June 5, 2026 in Mumbai.

Producer Pahlaj Nihalani passed away at the age of 76 after a battle with health issues, Govinda and several other industry insiders gathered to honor a man who shaped many careers. Govinda was seen becoming emotional while paying final rites in Mumbai.

The bond between the two was decades old, for Govinda, the loss is deeply personal.

The actor couldn’t hide his emotions as he mentioned Nihalani as the “foundation stone” of his life in cinema.

He spoke how the veteran producer gave a chance to him during his toughest days, also mentioned that Nihalani didn’t just make movies, he took chance on young, struggling artists, took them out of poverty and gave them a life.

Decades ago their story began in the 1980s. When Govinda was trying to find his way, it was Nihalani who paved the path, signing him in several big hits that ultimately put the young actor among the biggest stars.

As the years passed by, that early filmy partnership turned into one of the most defining relationships of Govinda’s life.

The industry came together to say goodbye. Along with Govinda, stars like Saif Ali Khan, Varun Dhawan, Farhan Akhtar, and very long-time friend Shatrughan Sinha were present to pay their respects.

Bollywood’s different generations honor the filmmaker’s memory.

Nihalani leaves behind a legacy of pure Bollywood commercial cinema, produced iconic blockbusters like Ilzaam, Shola Aur Shabnam, and the massive hit Aankhen.

He wasn’t just a producer, he also served as the former Chairman of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) he was a powerful voice who helped shape the direction of Indian cinema for over a generation.

While the industry remembers him for the blockbusters and the careers he launched, Govinda will remember the man who stood by him when he was just a boy struggling with a dream.

It’s the end of an era for Indian cinema, but for its biggest star like Govinda of the ’90s, it’s the quiet farewell of a lifelong anchor.
